STALAGGH: Pure Misanthropia

STALAGGH : Pure Misanthropia STALAGGH
cd: 13.90€ (Sold out)
Mr Mental (Wayne Mental to his mum) reckons the loudest band of all time are Dutch extreme-metal noise-maniacs Stellagh - and he may have a point.

Stalaggh's USP is that they (supposedly) recruit genuine mental patients to record their vocals, which consist entirely of eardrum-lacerating screams. One of their guest 'singers' was apparently locked away after stabbing his own mother 30 times. Which seems a long-winded way of going about things. Why not just get Richard Hawley in?

According to the band's Myspace manifesto, Stalaggh "truly represents the total annihilation of all human life." And there was me thinking that was N-Dubz.

Now, before we get all point-and-laugh over this, we should acknowledge that, beneath the childish shock tactics, there are some pretty sickening politics at work here. A 'stalag' is a Nazi concentration camp. The extra G and H stand for global holocaust.

Following the same principle, the band soon plan to launch a new project, Gullaggh. If they keep sliding down the genocide scale, presumably eventually they'll end up at Butlinsgh.

Stallaggh are, quite clearly, a bunch of berks. They might even be an elaborate spoof. But in terms of sheer, gut-rumbling, parent-worrying, vomit-inducing noise, you've got to admit they possess a certain elan.

Blue Sabbath Black Cheer is louder, blacker & more nihilistic than Stalaggh could ever hope to be...
Daniel [Visitor] //August 3 2009 at 18:12
Stalaggh's album Pure Misanthropia is one of my all time faves, it's so raw, so pure. Existence is futile...

Those are real mental patients. This what 'emo' music sounds like haha.
Melvin [Visitor] //August 3 2009 at 22:51
Clicked play full of jaded cynicism, walked away in tears.
Anonymous [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 10:15
Jeez...I love stuff like Sunn o))) and Merzbow, but this is beyond the pale. Also, politics seem slightly dubious to say the least. Some things are rightfully taboo for a reason - you really shouldn't be joking around about concentration camps.
Stephen [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 12:15
OMG! This is the 1st time in my life that a song scared the hell out of me! That's genius!
Joe [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 13:01
That's unpleasant.
Shawn [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 14:35
Good job they hadn't annihilated evryone and were able to make this pile of crap. I'm sure all the other supporters of this 'global holocaust' will be illegally downlading their copy and playing it too the friends they should be killing.
[Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 14:39
This is nothing new. Adam and the Ants and Ultavox were using mental patients years ago!!!
[Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 14:46
Not Ultravox, I meant Visage, dah.

If you have to tell someone to scream, it's not real. And no, I'm not asking for stalaggh to do something real. Stinkkh.
Jeff [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 17:21
fucking funny!
Bob Drones [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 18:14
I didn’t think it was possible to have less tunes than Babyshambles.
José [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 18:22
Quite a hit with the ladies, the tune (and the chaps, surely)...
Stevethedrummer [Visitor] //August 4 2009 at 20:02
Fuckin' great riff that first one. Overall it sound's like a whole diferent kind of shredding. If you catch my drift...

This is nothing, the Norwegian black metal bands have been up to much darker stuff... Buring down 500 year old churches, torturing fans (un-willingly) and drinking their blood, killing each other and some random people and making noises that hurt...
??? [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 08:54
wtf is this? sitting in a dark room scared to death.
Evan Crackdust [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 11:15
How can they be extreme? They ain't from Sabbath City. p.s. I've seen St Vitus!

p.p.s. - Twice!
NMEisatroll [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 12:19
cool story bro.
Ana [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 12:44
this is sick. there is no meaning behind this track at all. Horror movie soundtracks - that's the only "light in a tunnel" for this band otherwise they should be locked up as well.
doomflares [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 13:38
oh god, this is emo.
Megatron [Visitor] //August 5 2009 at 14:04

i dont understand why so many have such an emotional attachment to magazines like the nme. emotions are bad. i say scrap the lot of them. they only cover bad music. and you should all do as i say, and if you dont I'LL THCWEAM AND THCWEAM TIL IM THICK!
xvoid [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 00:49
I think posts like these really show a downturn in the quality of NME articles. I have a feeling when I finally sanitize the airlock chamber sufficiently for me to take the plastic wrapper off the current issue 8 months from now that I'm going to be rather disappointed. Not too keen on Stalaggh, either, they smell too greasy for my taste.
dcfc [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 10:48
thats nearli as bad as phil collins!!
Frankyyyyyy [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 12:50
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to that Stalaggh track on youtube. I would call myself a fan of the more extreme styles of music and this is among the best I've heard. It certainly has artistic value. Also their new project Gulaggh sounds very interesting. I'm certainly going to buy some of their stuff on eBay.
Toby aka DVoid [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 15:55
I love this band almost as much as i love men!

Stalaggh on NME??? That's awesome! I've been a fan of their work since 2001.
Bored to death [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 18:07
The Gulaggh (follow up to Stalaggh) was already released 3 months ago. Just search youtube, you can find 2 short samples there. This time they used over 30 children from a youth mental hostpital...and you thought Stalaggh was sick!
pfunkboy [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 18:09
shall I make a poll about it? Are you sure this band isn't BNP SCUM calling themselves Stallagh?
Dean O))) [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 19:02
I don't think that's very funny.
Toby aka DVoid [Visitor] //August 6 2009 at 23:33

A Nuclear Bomb just went off, this is music to the sound of Terminator 2s nuke scene!
Chaps [Visitor] //June 17 2010 at 17:41
I like this album. It's like they sat down to write a new track and said, "I know! What about some screams over static! We haven't done that over and over again." Noise- it isn't scary kiddies.
Dr. Zook [Visitor] //June 20 2010 at 16:01
If you think that is unlistenable, then you have never heard the Anal Cunts.
Lorna [Visitor] //October 20 2010 at 23:33
If I'm honest, NME really let themselves down with this. Firstly, everyone has different tastes, and this type of music may appeal to certain people. Secondly, music is a form of art, and you can express it in anyway you want to. So basically, the writer of this article is extremely biased. Either way, I love Stalaggh. :EXSISTANCE IS FUTILE:
