DARK OPERA

DARK OPERA
Formed in 1991 in Lodz, featuring bassist/lead vocalist Pawel Jozwiak, guitarist Radek Mielczarek and drummer Mariusz Makowski. Mielczarek quit shortly afterwards, and was replaced by Piotr Szewczyk. A week later, they introduced a second guitarist – Mikolaj Wojcik. Makowski was subsequently given his walking papers, while Wojcik presented his resignation, dissatisfied with the death/doom style the group was embracing. In August new drummer Michal Wochna was incorporated. Jozwiak suggested the band name, while Przemyslaw Szymaniak designed the logo. In September, the band started working on own songs – in November they did their first show in Lomza.

In April 1992, they entered the Ariadna Studio in their home city to record their first self-produced demo, entitled The Day Of Pariah. They later signed with Carnage Records, which released the tape.

In 1993, a second guitarist was added – Sebastian Sajduda. In April, this new line-up entered the Chris Fux Studio, recording material for the following album Calling The Legend, released through Baron Records in 1994.
