Originally formed in 1987 as Melancholium.
In 1991 changed name to Katatonia.

Katatonia (Catatonia) is a psychiatric condition often associated with schizophrenia. It is characterized by a general absence of motor activity or violent, hyperactive behavior.

Participated on the compilation "Explictly Intense - Insanity Sampler 10" with the song "Soil's Song".
