The name of the band was inspired by Demonaz Doom Occulta of Immortal after the Immortal demo track "Enslaved in Rot."
Enslaved formed out of the ashes of Phobia. Their first concert was in Haugesund (Norway) on the 30th of November 1991.
When Enslaved started, Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson were 13 and 17 years old.
